To help you teach your child Italian in 30 minutes a day, we adapted the Homeschool Languages curriculum to online classes

Have you tried to teach your child Italian before but have given up because you yourself don’t know Italian? Or did you give up because you don’t have a community of Italian speakers near you? For children to learn a foreign language they need to know that it’s practical and that many others speak the language.

To solve these problems, I have collaborated with Homeschool Languages and have created communities of Italian speakers in my online classes. I have adapted the Homeschool Languages Italian curriculum to use in my online group classes. As a parent, you can listen in and then continue to practice and play with your child to reinforce their learning.

Why I like the Homeschool Languages Italian Curriculum

I chose the Homeschool Languages Italian curriculum because it follows a natural progression starting with greetings and simple conversations. You can teach your child Italian so they can start speaking with their Italian nonni right away. Or, if you are visiting Italy soon, they will be able to initiate conversations and the Italians will love you.

Each day, you teach your child Italian vocabulary by playing fun games. You practice what you learned the day before also through Italian games. And you teach your child Italian culture in each lesson. You will teach your child about Italian artists, fashion, geography, music, and of course food!

Other methods I have used to teach Italian

I have taught Italian to many children. In some of my lessons, I based them on a theme of the day like colors, numbers, seasons, gelato, or pizza. In others, I followed a grammar scope and sequence.  And I have tried immersion where the rule is we have to speak Italian all the time while we play or make something.

Creating my own lessons from scratch each time takes a long time so I am really happy I discovered the Homeschool Languages curriculum. It is well thought out with each lesson building on the previous one and practicing what was previously taught. It also anticipates future lessons and introduces vocabulary in videos before the next lesson.

We hope more people start to learn Italian and we’re glad you’re helping that come to pass.

Buying my license for the curriculum to share with you

Since I liked this curriculum so much, I wondered if I could buy it and adapt it to use online in my Outschool classes. I wrote to Homeschool Languages and was very happy with this reply:

Hello!! We are just so flattered you’d want to share our curriculum with your classes! The license is for one teacher, but as many students as you need, so you can follow the lessons or use it as inspiration for the times that it wouldn’t work in a digital type setting. Just mention that you’re referring to it somewhere in the class description! We hope more people start to learn Italian and we’re glad you’re helping that come to pass.

Italian is so popular with kids this summer

Since receiving this permission, I have created several classes using this curriculum as inspiration to teach your child Italian online. Italian Summer Camp for Beginners Ages 6-10 has been filling up every week.  The summer camp runs for 4 days for one week.

I listed this class right before I went to Italy this summer. When I was in Italy, every day I received an email that someone had signed up for Italian Summer Camp. I couldn’t believe how popular my Italian summer camp was. Since Italian is not a top 5 useful language to learn, I had low expectations. But my camp has been full almost every week!

Why is Italian for kids so popular this summer? One reason is that after waiting for two years, people are finally able to travel again and Italy is a popular destination. It seems like everyone is going to Italy this summer. And parents want their kids to learn some Italian before they go.

Another reason is that kids love learning Italian. After hearing the melodious Italian language, seeing the beautiful landscapes, and eating the amazing food on their trips, they are so motivated that they ask their parents to sign them up for Italian classes.

My Italian classes on Outschool are mini communities

Italian is my passion and I have been studying it and speaking it all my life. I am so glad to be able to provide these online group lessons to help you teach your child Italian. Group lessons are fun because the kids can see that other kids want to learn a foreign language too.

In order for children to want to speak a new language, they need to be in a community of people speaking or learning the language. It is hard to find a community of Italian speakers where most people live.

Being able to teach online group lessons on Outschool is the perfect solution. Kids from any place in the world who want to learn Italian can come together and form a community and practice learning Italian together.

If enough kids demand Italian lessons, then Italian can finally take its rightful place as a top useful language to learn and be offered in high schools all over the country. Start to teach your child Italian today by signing them up for one of my online group Italian classes. Grazie!
